http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/intellectual%20property
People who are creators innovators and thinkers make up the most sucessful sector of our American economy. intellectual property is valued at $5.5 trillion which drives fourty percent of the econ growth. but piracy has been threatening intelletual property because it discourages new advances when so much of it is being illegally copyrighted, used or sold etc. around $200-$250 billion is lost in sales because of piracy. China, Russia, Spain and Thailand are four of the countries that are well known for violating these property laws due to copyrighting. the countries that protect these property rights have almost nine times greater gdp per capita compared to the countries that dont.
i agree with this article, i think it is very important to protect intellecual as well as physical property rights in this country. if everyone followed these rules $200-$250 billion would not be lost but be circulating in our economy right now. people worked hard to think of and create these things and we need to give credit where credit is due. these people drive fourty percent of our economic growth so its not like this is a minor offense. i think the us needs to take more stands against piracy and make punishments stronger.

Globalization and Its Discontents

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deregulation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wto
This is the time of globalization. The 21 century is expanding its ideas on freer trade and free market capitalism to multiple nations across the world. these ideas are ruled by three certain policies WTO, the IMF, and the World Bank, all benifiting the free market economy. this sounds great but some argue that in this system the poor get the short end of the stick, the rich get richer at the expense of the poor. they also say that deregulation encourages nations to harm the enviornment and also doesnt contain issues like enforcing child labor laws. on the other hand, people for globalization say that it has especially helped after ww2 getting over three billion people out of poverty. and also places like china have improved their economic status by adopting globalization.
i think that globaliztion is a very good thing, it helps expand economic growth and as we can see it can help both the rich and poor in the economy. helping establish better trade in other countries can be easily accomplished if they execpt the free trade market into their government. in doing this other countries can be more connected with the world.
Milton Friedman a big supporter of free market economy would definatly support my decison. he would like to see it spread throughout many countries.
