Report: Drilling in Federal Waters, Public Lands Could Be Faster

in this article public drilling areas leases are expiring before we even go to drill them, we have the leases but the companies are just not drilling fast enough. in the US the government has lots of land that could be used to over double the national domestic oil production. one third of the oil from the US is produced from public lands. President-elect Obama belives, along with many senators, that oil companies should "use it or loose it" before getting new leases to continue drilling because the leases are not cheap and much land goes without drilling because of wasted leases. in order for more companies to get its way is to lower the cost of the leases but also make the leases smaller in the amout of days they have with the land so they would get on it. also fast-tracking production could make companies develop oil and gas resources outside the US and decrease revenues.
i think that this is a good idea. why our gas prices so high when they could be lower by having US drill more on land to increase the production of oil and gas. then the prices could go down on gas. the "use it or loose it" policy would also be great because then the companies would feel more pressure to get one area done to move on to the next. if they have one or two leases out and they cant get another one out, then they arent wasting money by not drilling before a lease expires. they would have to get it done on time if they wanted to make a profit instead of losing money cause of forgetting to drill with some leases because they have too many other leases that are being worried about. also getting oil from other countries is a good idea because it keeps realaitons between the US and foriegn countries closer and saves us money.
